Why is it that whenever we enter harsh economic times, it's always the funding for the arts that gets cut first, yet it's always the arts that inspire, lift us and give us the will to persevere....
After a very slow start to the year I had begun to contemplate taking up a part time job to help pay the bills. The last couple of years have been exceedingly hard and the economic crisis that has gripped the world economies has crippled many freelancers who (as my own experience is testament), are the first to lose out when companies tighten their purse strings.
It's a pretty grim decision to have to face - do I sacrifice my art and the years I spent building my career in order to pay the bills? The answer for many is not even a choice, it's a necessity. I have been able to survive living hand to mouth for some time now but by the beginning of February I had reached breaking point when dramatically I was lucky enough to be offered a flood of work which seems for the time being (touch wood) to be continuing. Hopefully this means I can shed off the misery of the last two years and move forwards into Spring with a fresh skin.
This all means that I should have some new pieces to post pretty soon with all the extra work, so watch this space...
In the meantime, again I'd like to thank everyone for their support and kind words - this site really helps lift the spirit when it has sunk quite low and remember that it's art... your art that keeps the world inspired during the bleak times.
Keep creating!!!
