I was approached by a company to design an invitation for an event celebrating their 10th anniversary. They wanted something that would appeal to clients, friends and families. The event is to take place at a venue on the river Thames and they wanted an emphasis on the notion that it would be a summers afternoon by the river.

I went down to the venue and realized that it was opposite the Battersea Power Station, a wonderful piece of architecture from a bygone era. This pointed me in the direction of how I wanted to do the design, something that harked back to an era when people spent afternoons on the river in boats. So I decided to do the invite much in the same style as a previous work [link] which was based on the 1940's seaside poster art that were used to tempt families to a day at the seaside.

This (hopefully) fulfilled the clients brief of an invitation that said summers day/evening by the river...

Time: 2 days
Medium: Photoshop Vectors
Reference: Photos taken by myself at the river

Sir

Another superb piece done in such a wonderful style, I love this style very 1930s/1940s, which was a wonderful age for advertisement art.

Keep up the superb work and no need to thank me for the fav and comment your piece is enough thanks, a job very well done:)

Please remember Deviant Art is for Art and not for poorly composed and badly focused snapshots of you and your friends, you will find sites like MySpace catering for that!
Yeah - that was the sort of style I was trying to capture. I love all the travel posters and railway adverts of the 30's-50's such a wealth of great graphic design.

:D
Wonderful! Battersea power station is such an iconic building, and such a wonderful shape and space to illustrate.

"My name is Valerius." Valerius straightened his coat with a regal, arrogant jerk. "And I do take offense to him." (Sherrilyn Kenyon, "Night Embrace")
Yeah - it's one of my favourite buildings too!

:D
This style of poster illustration isn't used enough nowadays, I think alot of people look at it and think it's too old fashioned, But the way you've done this poster makes it look totally modern.
Did they use it in the end.
