Key Arts Identity

One of the hardest projects I have ever had to do, is to create my own company's identity. It's the fun part of setting up a business for sure, coming up with the name, designing a logo, making business cards etc... but this was a real headache.

It took me weeks to come up with a company name, and I'm glad I didn't rush into deciding on one. I played around with all sorts of names but of course many of the best names are already taken by other companies.

*Yamenja gave me some ideas to play around with too but nothing seemed to work. And then out of the blue, it came to me:

Key Arts

Key is such a wonderful word - it has so many positive connotations like: the answer to and it also means crucial/critical... Arts because I don't work in just one medium. The other level the name works on is that I also design film posters which in the film industry are known as 'Keyart'.

So I had the perfect name - but designing the perfect logo seemed impossible (it's so much easier designing for someone else). After many attempts at something pictorial I decided to have a font-only logo, in 2 strong colours (black & red). I chose a font which can be used in modern or retro design and this is the result.

Hopefully funky, but retro also. Prize for the first person who gets the artistic reference.
